Our Executive

The NZMPS executive structure is different to other competitors. Our elected executive consist of a President, Vice-President and Treasurer who must all be doctors, these executive members make all policy decisions for NZMPS.

The Secretary is appointed by the executive under the constitution and does not make policy decisions. Instead, the Secretary sees to the day-to-day operations of the organisation on behalf of the executive.

When we say "Run by Doctors for Doctors" we mean it.

 Alison Goodwin

President

Dr Alison Goodwin MBChB, FRNZCGP is a GP. She graduated from Otago Medical School in 1993 and has been a doctor for 30 years. She worked initially in Emergency Medicine and then commenced GP training in 2009.

She is undertaking additional training in Lifestyle Medicine. She is inspired by the potential of the human body to heal and would like to see the health system change focus from one that is ‘managing chronic disease’ to one that is ‘creating health’. She also feels very strongly about medical ethics and that the primary responsibility of doctors is to the patient in front of them.

 Anne O'Reilly

Vice President

Anne O’Reilly trained in Medicine in Dublin and has worked in hospitals in Eire, the UK and Canada before emigrating to New Zealand 25 years ago to work in Psychiatry, Palliative Care, General Practice and Functional Medicine.

Anne is excited to be part of NZMPS as a ground up organisation of members where truth and transparency are key qualities and protecting the right to free speech and ethical practice are valued as the erosion of scopes of practice has become commonplace.

Anne decided to deregister from the New Zealand Medical Council in May 2022 and is now training in Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy.

 Cindy de Villiers

Treasurer

Dr Cindy de Villiers has been involved in general practice and acute care for thirty years. She is trained in Integrative Medicine and has an interest in personal health optimisation and its applications in chronic disease.

In her practice, she combines complementary, nutritional and environmental medicine with conventional medicine, emphasising the treatment of underlying factors and triggers, while providing symptomatic relief. She has always been fascinated by the intricacies and complexity of the body, by how it worked and by what made us, as humans, function, and what was going on when weren’t functioning optimally.

She continues practicing as an Integrative GP, while working tirelessly for a fairer health system for patients and practitioners alike.

 Sarah Gilbertson

Secretary

Sarah is the Secretary of the NZ Unions, whose journey with the union movement began during her time as a student representative for the NZNO National Student Unit. Frustrated by the inactivity of the traditional unions, she's eager to play a pivotal role in bringing about positive change for medical professionals alongside NZ Unions. She brings valuable experience in governance and has an impressive track record of organizing and executing several campaigns.

Sarah is inspired by and draws strength from the examples set by local Wellington women advocates like Celia Lashlie and Helen Kelly.  Freedom, fairness, justice and integrity are core values for Sarah.

Sarah is incredibly grateful to have three children in her life and loves food, travel, music and dancing.
